A Comedic Sci-Fi
Most people enjoy going to the zoo, but how would they like to be in a
zoo? To the human children living in the intergalactic zoo, owned by the
creatures known as Pipe Men, being in a zoo is a way of life. In fact,
they have no desire to escape until Ryan and Becky's dad is poisoned.
Now the need for freedom is dire. Therefore, they set off, releasing a
chain reaction of events that eventually provokes intergalactic
hostilities between the Pipe Men and other races. After this, Ryan and
Becky's world will never be the same.
I thought this book was an
intriguing sci-fi tale. The story can seem rather confusing at first, as
the story doesn't unfold right away, but unrolls slowly, like a carpet,
and some of the strange alien things aren't properly explained or
described until later. However, don't put aside this book in
frustration, for it is worth the reader's time and energy to endure some
confusion. By the middle of the book, the plot does pick up speed and
explain enough things to make the story understandable. Other than the
speed of the plot and insufficient background in the beginning that left
the reader confused, I have no complaints with this book. Both comical
and exciting, the plot is enjoyable and the characters are endearing, if
slightly predictable. I gave this book four stars for a happy,
feel-good story with a surprising twist in the end. I believe it is a
better fit for younger readers, but tweens and teens could also enjoy
it.
