Monster on the Hill

                                                     A Monstrously Fun Read
Every town has its local monster that will come and terrorize the town; the monster is the pride of the city. Every town has one, except Stoker-On-Avon that is. The city is in disgrace, as their monster has a severe case of depression. Someone must cheer up Rayburn, the un-monsterish town monster, and get him ready to be a proper town terror. Thus, a determined doctor sets off to fix the problem. A road trip is the proscribed cure, a journey to see some of Rayburn's old friends who will hopefully teach him how to be a real monster. Unfortunately, while Rayburn is gone on his trip, a truly evil monster comes to destroy the unguarded Stoker-On-Avon, and Rayburn must either summon his inner monster or go down in history as a failure.
I thought this book was a hilarious, if short read. It is categorized as a tween book, but I was able to read it in less than 30 minutes. While the attitude and concepts might be more appropriate for middle school readers, a younger reader could understand the overall story. The novel twist on the traditional monster story and the comic dialog made the story amusing. The graphics are well illustrated, and the illustrations make a good supplement to the storyline. It is a short graphic novel with all the fun of a full novel. I gave it five stars for its unforgettable characters and hilarious storyline.
